Last summer, as a response to falling away attendances across the division, the Premier League insisted that each club ring fence £200,000 of their own money to benefit away fans and improve the away experience.
Here’s how Tottenham Hotspur spent their Away Fans fund:
Ran subsidised and free coaches to every away game outside London. Maximum cost £10 return for adults to any destination
- Provided coach travellers with free scarves for trips to Newcastle and Sunderland
- Offered every official UK based Supporters Club access to a free coach to one away game
- Chartered a heavily-subsidised exclusive train service to Liverpool for the game at the end of March. £25 return per person
- Committed to thorough redecoration and refreshment of the areas used for away fans at WHL, including new entertainment facilities
- Dressed THFC catering staff in the visitors areas in their own team’s colours
Plans for next season:
- Coach travel to all away games outside London at minimal cost
- Chartered trains to up to four destinations out of Euston
- Possibility of food/ programme vouchers for selected games
