Demand for foodbanks has risen sharply during the pandemic. During the first six months of the crisis the Trussell Trust, the network Tottenham Foodbank is a part of, distributed 1.2 million food parcels – an increase of 47% on the previous six months. Of those 1.2 million, 460,000 went to families with children.
During this crisis, Spurs fans have shown extraordinary generosity, raising funds for NHS staff, the Justin Edinburgh 3 Foundation, and the Tottenham Foodbank – as well continuing to generate funds for our nominated Trust charities Prostate Cancer UK and Studio 306 Collective. And we know many fans are facing struggles of their own. So we don’t ask this lightly.
We’re asking for just the price of a pie, pint or programme whenever the whistle blows and the cockerel crows.
No one should be going hungry in the fifth richest country in the world. And we are mindful of the words of Trussell Trust chief executive Emma Revie when she warns that foodbanks cannot become normalised. “We have to find better ways of supporting one another as a society than leaving people to rely on food charity,” she said.
However, people need your help now and so we’re asking, in these most challenging times, if you will join us for the rest of this season to #KickOffAgainstHunger
You can donate via the Tottenham Foodbank Justgiving page.
You can also donate £3, £5, £10 or £20 straight to the foodbank by texting TOTTENHAM 3, TOTTENHAM 5, TOTTENHAM 10 or TOTTENHAM 20 to 70085. Texts cost donation amount plus one standard rate message.
And please spread the word on social media using #KickOffAgainstHunger
