As the oldest pub still operating in Tottenham, the Antwerp Arms has been serving Spurs fans since 1882. There is now a very real risk the pub will close like so many others in the local area.
To save the pub, local residents have set up a community pub venture to raise funds through a share issue in order to buy the pub for the community. Those of you that use the pub on match days are part of this community.
The Antwerp Arms Association needs to raise a minimum of £125,000 through shares by 22 May 2014. At this stage money is just being pledged; nothing will be taken from you unless the full amount is raised and even then, it will only be taken once the AAA is ready to purchase the pub.
The pub is intended to be a community hub, which not only benefits its customers, but which also works with local businesses such as Redemption Brewery and The Tottenham Ploughmans, a group of Tottenham based producers of food and drink including the Brewery, Wildes Cheese and Flourish Bakers. There will be a pledge party at the pub from 12-3pm on Sunday 18 May, with free beer and a ploughman’s lunch for everyone who buys a share.
So if you would like to help save the pub for future match days, why not pop along to the open day, or check more information at www.microgenius.org.uk
