We were delighted that more than 5000 supporters filled in our recent survey which gauges how fans feel on some of the key issues surrounding the Club. The results are being analysed and written up - we hope to share them soon so look out for news.
2. Summer BBQ
A big thank you to those members, and friends who attended the THST Summer 2023 BBQ earlier in July. Our special guests this year were Spurs’ legends Micky Hazard and Pat Jennings, who were interviewed by Spurs’ Show host Theo Delaney. The ex-players gave some fantastic insights into their Spurs careers and also ruminated on the up-coming season. Both spoke with considerable passion and knowledge about the Club and were excited about the upcoming season. Micky and Pat were very generous with their time giving those of us present ample opportunities for selfies and signings.
Ben, and the brilliant team at the Antwerp Arms, put on a fantastic array of food and successfully managed to make everyone feel very welcome. It’s worth remembering that THST members who show their badge get a 10% discount at the Antwerp Arms. Musical entertainment for the afternoon was provided by DJ Alex Royffe, with a couple of
live sets from the superb Tim Winstone. He treated us to an exclusive performance of the new Ange Postecoglou song which will soon be ringing round the terraces at the stadium.
We raised nearly £800 for one of our chosen charities, Prostate Cancer UK. One in eight men will get prostate cancer and, if you’re over 50, or you’re black, or your dad or brother had it, you’re at an even higher risk. More information can be found here. In addition, Ben Abrahams from the Antwerp Arms is further fundraising for PCUK as a friend of his has been diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer. Donations can be made here.
Finally, thanks go to everyone who worked hard and helped to make this a great event. It’s always good to meet new people and to learn more about our members and their Spurssupporting stories.
3. Fan Advisory Board
The first meeting of the Fan Advisory Board took place on 10th July - you can read the full minutes here. Of note was the fact that the representatives on the FAB unanimously opposed the rise in ticket prices and believed there should have been greater consultation with fans. The next meeting will be on 7th August to elect the Co-Chair and there will be an induction day in September when the FAB members will meet key THFC personnel and the Club's long term plans will be shared and discussed.
4. FSA Broadcast work
As mentioned above the findings from our summer survey are currently being written up and will be published in a few weeks. One clear finding we can share at this stage is that the vast majority of fans believe that far more consideration should be given to match-going fans when moving matches for TV. We’ve also collected valuable data on fans’ preferences regarding different broadcast slots, and on the extent to which match-going supporters have been left out-of-pocket due to games being rescheduled.
The FSA has been summarising supporters’ key areas of concern to aid conversations with the Premier League regarding the next round of broadcast rights tendering, ahead of the expiry of the current deal in 2025. THST, represented by Koonal Shah, has been supporting this work via contributions to the FSA’s Broadcast Committee, ensuring that the views and concerns of Spurs fans are heard. We’ve been emphasising the need to avoid unnecessary double changes and for greater supporter consultation on fixture schedules going forward.
