Ground share survey, Members’ Meeting (20 May), Police Safety Forum (13 May)
Bradford City Fire 30th Anniversary Collection (3 May), CPST Board Meeting (6 May), Surfing flag at Hull City (16 May), THST Board Meetings (1 June and 16 June), Away games: Loyalty Points summary, Supporters Direct Membership Renewal, End of season survey, Community Update: Antwerp Arms and New River Centre
THST ran a survey (May 1-10) to gauge supporters’ views on the key issues surrounding the proposed Ground share season. Results can be viewed here.
We are currently pressing the Club’s Board for more answers about what will be happening in the season away, and what the plans for the new stadium are. We recognise that many of the answers we seek may be commercially sensitive, but we believe we have, over the last two years, demonstrated that we understand how a dialogue of this kind should be conducted.
With the Club indicating fans may be asked to bear a greater financial burden, in the short term at least, for the new stadium build, and with many fans expressing concern over a lack of information and the inevitable rumours, we believe it is right to seek answers that would reassure fans.
2. THST MEMBERS’ MEETING – 20 MAY
The latest of our regular Members’ Meetings, held in the Bill Nicholson suite at White Hart Lane, was extremely well-attended and everyone appreciated the time given us by THFC staff, explaining the approach to stewarding and security. A report of the meeting can be read here.
3. POLICE SAFETY FORUM – 13 MAY
Representatives from THST, THFC, Metropolitan Police and Haringey Council met for the end of season Police Safety Forum at WHL on 13 May. Minutes from the meeting can be read here.
Bradford Fire – 30 Years Memorial Collection - 3 May
Before and after the home match with Man City, we took part in a fund raising bucket collection to mark the 30th Anniversary of the fire at Valley Parade, which claimed 56 lives. We raised £490, which was matched by the Premier League. In addition, Spurs and Manchester City each donated a further £500, which was much appreciated. The money has now been transferred to the recipients of this collection - the Bradford Burns Unit/PSBRU (Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit).
Volunteers to help on these occasional efforts are always appreciated and-- to be frank -- needed. If you can get along an hour or two early on a match day it can make all the difference to our supporting such valuable causes, when the whole football world stands together. Thanks!
Crystal Palace Supporters’ Trust Board Meeting – 6 May
THST had agreed to meet the Crystal Palace Supporters' Trust Board on 6 May to discuss our work in the community, our stance on ticket pricing and member engagement/ recruitment. Unfortunately, CPST had to postpone this meeting. We await another date.
Surfing Flag at Hull City – 16 May
Our new 12m x 10m surfing flag – ‘The Game is About Glory’ – was due to be unfurled just before our last home game (v Hull City). Unfortunately, we did not get enough volunteers to make this possible. We’ll try again at the start of next season. Please volunteer for this! We’ll share details in a future newsletter.
THST Board Meetings – 1 June and 16 June
As well as our scheduled meeting (June 16) the Trust Board has slotted in an additional meeting (June 1) to focus on the crucial issue of our new stadium and where Spurs will play during the ‘ground share season’ of 2017-18. This is a complex and difficult subject, as well as critical, which merits dedicated attention. We’ll keep you posted.
Away games – Loyalty Point Summary
THST collates all match categorisation, pricing, allocation and loyalty point cut off details for every THFC away game in the Premier League each season. Data from the 2014/2-15 campaign can now be viewed here.
Supporters Direct Membership Renewal
Supporters Direct is the umbrella body for the Trust movement in England and Wales and has given THST much invaluable advice on our own organisation, on campaigning work and on football governance since the Trust reformed, as well as provided a forum for us to work together with colleagues from other Trusts. Membership costs us £100 a year, and in the past year alone, the advice we've had has far exceeded the fee we pay, so we had no hesitation in renewing for another year.
End of Season Survey
THST is finalising its usual End of Season Survey. We will share this with you later in June, so do look out for it and let us know what you think.
The Antwerp Arms (near Bruce Castle Park) is Tottenham's only community owned pub, of which the Trust and many of its members are shareholders (and you can still buy shares if you wish).
It is hosting a number of classy events over the Summer. Following harmonica & guitar blues and reggae and Jazz & soul on the May Bank Holiday weekend, how about this for a fun day out? Sunday 14 June, Vintage Fair at Bruce Castle Museum, with vintage cocktails a pleasant stroll across the park at the Antwerp.
