We were all desperately saddened to hear of the passing of our friend and former THST Board member and Secretary, Pete Haine, on October 3, 2023. The outpouring of love for Pete on social media was a testament to the man he was. Pete lived his life to the full and for the benefit of others. He made friends wherever he went. You can read our tribute to Pete here.
Pete’s wife, Jill would be delighted to welcome you to a special ‘Party for Pete’ on November 3 at the Antwerp Arms, 168-170 Church Road, Tottenham, London N17 8AS. We will be meeting from 1pm – 5pm and sharing our memories of Pete, enjoying his favourite music, and, of course, raising a glass or two to him. Please come and join us if you can.
We would also like to thank everyone who has got in touch to offer their condolences at this terribly sad time. If you would like to send your memories of Pete for Jill (and us) to enjoy, please send them to our email: info@THSTOfficial.com and we will be sure to forward them on. If you would like to make a donation to Pancreatic Cancer UK in Pete’s memory, here’s the link: Pete Haine Just Giving.
Ticketing campaign - Club meeting
As part of our ticketing campaign, THST Chair Martin Buhagiar and Vice-Chair Michael Green met the Club’s Executive Director Donna-Maria Cullen and Head of Supporter Engagement Levi Harris on October 10. The Club has subsequently announced it is set to embark on a long-term ticketing review and during the meeting it was agreed that THST will play a full part in this process. We welcome the Club’s introduction of a long-term strategy paper on ticketing in general, look forward to playing a part in this review and, more importantly, representing the views of our members during any meetings. We will be clear with the Club where we disagree with any approach that is not in line with those views, and we will continue to highlight the impact on supporters of the rise in this season’s match day prices. For more on our meeting, please click here.
Before our game with Fulham on 23rd October, THST Board members and Spurs supporters met colleagues from Fulham Supporters’ Trust to show solidarity and to support them in their fight against their club following season ticket price increases and to continue to raise awareness of our ticketing campaign. We met in the Antwerp Arms where we also discussed several ticket related concerns with various supporters.
The Trust’s ticketing team also met with the Club’s Head of Ticketing and Head of Supporter Engagement for a session to discuss the key issues relating to ticketing at Spurs. Below is a summary of the main points raised by the Trust. You can read more about that meeting by clicking here.
Christmas Eve football
We were dismayed to see that the Wolves - Chelsea fixture has been scheduled to be played on Christmas Eve, an important date when many supporters are busy getting together for family celebrations, travelling, or preparing for Christmas Day. This controversial scheduling decision was made without consulting relevant supporter groups. It does not affect Spurs on this occasion, but we could be the unlucky ones next year.
We prepared a statement expressing our opposition to the principle of playing top flight matches on Christmas Eve, which we sent to the Premier League via the Football Supporters’ Association. You can find our statement here.
Club partnership with Socios
Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust has urged fans not to sign up to Socios, the crypto-currency company announced as a commercial partner by the Club earlier this month.
THST is opposed to the arrangement between the Club and Socios and urges fans not to participate. We do not believe that fan engagement should be monetised nor should it be conducted via a third party provider. Nor do we believe that fans should be lured by the promise of “benefits” to purchase fan tokens which are a risky cryptocurrency that could lose most or all of its value. And we do not believe that Socios should use the personal data obtained from Spurs fans who sign up to the Socios app. You can read our full statement here.
